The Bard Room, New York — Interior Design by Studio Sio
Originally a grand dining room. Briefly a tattoo parlour. Now—back where it belongs.
Studio Sio designed the Bard Room event and private dining space at the Hotel Chelsea, New York, as part of the full hotel renovation led by interior designer Shanta Trusewich in collaboration with BD Hotels and hotelier Sean MacPherson. The Bard Room is located within the historic 1884 building and was designed to serve as a flexible event space while maintaining the atmosphere and character of the Hotel Chelsea. The Hotel Chelsea received a Michelin Key for excellence in hospitality in 2024.
The Bard Room needed to hold its own against one of New York's most storied addresses. Studio Sio leaned into the building's bones — high ceilings, original detailing, and the kind of light that only comes from windows that have been in place for over a century — creating a room that feels elevated without competing with the hotel's own considerable personality.
