freelance Interior Design assistant (New York City)
Location: NYC-based (in-person site visits required)
Type: Freelance
Studio Sio is looking for a freelance Designer Assistant to support ongoing NYC-based projects on an hourly basis. This is a hands-on, client-facing role focused on on-the-ground project support and design delivery. Responsibilities include site measure-ups, sourcing furniture, lighting, and materials, collecting and managing samples, meeting with trades and suppliers, viewing vintage and antiques in the NY area, assisting with occasional install days, and assisting with trade and client coordination.
You’ll be working closely with the overseas principal designer to help keep projects organised, moving, and well-resolved — from early sourcing through to implementation. Ideal for someone detail-oriented, reliable, and confident working independently, with a strong understanding of materials and the NYC vendor landscape. Weekday support will be needed to meet with trades, this role would suit someone with other contract work or someone looking for occasional freelance work on top of another flexible position.
Please email info@studiosio.co.nz with a short description of your experience, your resume, and portfolio.
Interior Design INTERN (AUCKLAND, NEW ZEALAND)
Location: This role is based in Auckland. Applicants must have the right to work in New Zealand.
Type: Freelance/Contract
We’re looking for a thoughtful and detail-oriented interior design intern to join Studio Sio in Auckland. This is a paid, contract role supporting a small, high-end design practice working across residential, retail, and hospitality projects in New Zealand and New York.
You’ll be involved in a bit of everything - sourcing, social media, sample preparation, drawing updates, presentations, and general studio support. It’s a hands-on role, best suited to someone who is curious, organised, and genuinely interested in how projects come together behind the scenes.
You don’t need to know everything, but you do need to be good at talking to people and taking initiative, care about materials, proportion, and the small decisions that make a space feel resolved. A working knowledge of SketchUp, Adobe Suite, or AutoCAD is helpful, but not essential.
This role is ideal for a current student or a very recent graduate looking to gain real experience within a design studio.
Please email info@studiosio.co.nz with a short description of your experience, your resume, and portfolio.
