Hotel Chelsea Lobby Bar, New York — Interior Design by Studio Sio
If these walls could talk, they’d ask for another round.
Studio Sio designed the Lobby Bar and Garden Room at the Hotel Chelsea, New York, as part of the broader renovation led by Shanta Trusewich. The Lobby Bar opened in 2022 and was designed to feel atmospherically continuous with the hotel's 1884 heritage — aged brass, velvet upholstery, marble surfaces, and custom millwork throughout. The adjacent Garden Room references designer Elsie de Wolfe's early 20th century aesthetic, with handmade shutters, wicker, and layered greenery softening the mood without breaking the spell. The Lobby Bar was featured in Elle Decor, WWD, Time Out New York, and World of Interiors. The Hotel Chelsea received a Michelin Key in 2024.
The goal wasn't to recreate the past — it was to make something new that spoke to it. A place moody enough for a late drink, light-filled enough for an afternoon that stretches longer than intended. Custom millwork and vintage pieces bring intimacy to what is, in essence, a series of very grand rooms.
